CATCH A RISING STAR
Local Favorite, Sandy Hackett, Headlines At 'Catch'
In the "Hackett tradition" Sandy Hackett will be bringing his unique and hilarious look at our world today to "Catch A Rising Star" (offering the best comedy in Las Vegas!) located in the MGM Grand Hotel, Casino & Theme Park through June 9. Joining Hackett, for the week, are stand-up comics Happy Cole and Linda Smith.
Sandy Hackett may have been born with a comedy spoon in his mouth, but he's taken his inheritance and parlayed it into a sterling career! Hackett first appeared on the original "Laugh In" television show when he was twelve years old. He followed that appearance with twenty more. He went to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas to study hotel management. While attending school he worked first at the Stardust Hotel and then the Sahara Hotel where he trained in all facets of the hotel and casino business, from front desk to purchasing to entertainment. At the Sahara, Hackett was asked to develop and oversee the city's first talent showcase which was to become "the" place to see new talent in town. He went on to put together major showcases in Reno and Tahoe, Laughlin and Flagstaff, Arizona.
In the Sahara's main showroom, comics such as Jerry Lewis, Buddy Hackett and Jack Benny were frequent headliners. "I received an incredible lesson in comedy while watching these giants," he explains. Hackett began honing his own comedic skills with short monologues used when he emceed the showcase and later in comedy clubs across the country. He went on to become the featured act in the world famous production show "Folies Bergere," he had his own television talk show and has opened for some of the best in the business i.e. Dionne Warwick, Paul Anka, Bobby Vinton, David Cop-perfield, Delia Reese and of course, Buddy Hackett. Hackett scored heavy points when he was featured on Showtime's "Comedy Club Network" taped at "Catch" in Las Vegas. Hackett's winning rapport with casino audiences is more than genetics...it's hysterics!
